Major League Baseball super agent Scott Boras recently finalized the most significant contract of his career. The New York Mets inked a groundbreaking $765 million, 15-year deal with four-time All-Star Juan Soto on Thursday, marking the largest contract in professional sports history. Soto will become the first MLB player to surpass $50 million in earnings for a single season.
Boras mentioned that numerous teams were interested in participating in the deal due to its exceptional value, emphasizing that it was a sound business decision for many. He highlighted the challenging decision-making process that Soto and his team underwent to find the ideal fit, with factors such as Soto’s impressive performance at Citi Field, the Mets’ home stadium, playing a crucial role.
In his 35 games at Citi Field, Soto, a left-handed hitter, achieved notable statistics, including 12 home runs, 26 RBIs, and an impressive on-base percentage of .466 along with a .709 slugging percentage. His longest career home run, spanning 466 feet, was hit at Citi Field on August 12, 2020.
Boras emphasized that for the 26-year-old player, the decision was not solely about financial gain but also about routine, performance, and various other considerations that athletes take into account. During his introductory press conference, Soto expressed gratitude towards the Mets for treating him like family and providing a supportive environment for him and his loved ones.
