In this article, BMW AG announced that it will equip all its future vehicles with a new operating system and a “panoramic” display. The company revealed that the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system, featuring a windshield-length display, will be powered by the BMW Operating System X. This announcement was made during the CES technology show, with the features expected to be introduced before the end of the year.
The new display, which spans the bottom of the windshield, is a growing trend in the automotive sector. The aim is to provide drivers with more information while ensuring they can focus on the road ahead. Frank Weber, who heads BMW’s vehicle development, stated in a press release, “With this advance, we are giving one of the world’s best and most comprehensive infotainment systems even greater capability and once again setting the industry benchmark in multimodal interaction.”
The design of the display is reminiscent of Ford Motor’s Lincoln brand, particularly in the SUV model named the Nautilus, which was launched in 2024. Additionally, BMW mentioned that the new system includes a “multifunction steering wheel” that lights up relevant buttons based on the vehicle’s current usage.
The rollout of the system will commence internationally before making its debut in the U.S. around mid-2026.
