In this article, Amazon has confirmed that it is laying off approximately 200 employees in its North America stores division. The core retail business, also known as the stores division, includes various segments such as private label brands, the Prime membership program, and the consumables business.
An Amazon spokesperson stated, “We’ve adjusted parts of our North America Stores team to better align with our priorities. As a result, we have decided to eliminate a small number of roles and are dedicated to assisting affected employees during this transition.”
The job cuts affected employees in the fashion and fitness sectors, among others, as reported earlier by Business Insider. CEO Andy Jassy has been focused on reducing costs throughout the company, resulting in around 27,000 job cuts since the start of 2022. Most of the layoffs occurred in 2022 and 2023, with ongoing smaller-scale cuts impacting various businesses within Amazon.
Additionally, Amazon has closed down some experimental and unprofitable ventures, including its telehealth service, a brick-and-mortar delivery program, and a try-on service for clothing and shoes.
